This last concert of the TLCA's 50th season is dedicated to the works of this association's founder, Latvian-Canadian composer, Talivaldis Kenins. It is a celebration of the successful seed he planted back in 1959 as a young post war refugee and the contribution he made to the musical life of his adopted country. It is fitting that the program features some of Canada's finest musicians, among them Tali's colleagues (and some former students) performing works that represent his long and prolific career including the Cello Sonata which was his graduation piece for the Paris Conservatoire and won him the prestigious Premier Prix in 1950. Also on the program are works for unaccompanied violin and clarinet, the first Piano Sonata (1960), the Concertante (1966) for flute and piano and the Piano Quintet from 1994.
